Starting from 12 August 2025, Indonesia has officially expanded its Visa-Free Visit (Bebas Visa Kunjungan/BVK) policy, allowing travelers from more countries to enter without the need to apply for a visa beforehand. This latest update, enacted under the Minister of Immigration and Correctional Affairs Regulation No. 10 of 2025, adds 17 countries and entities into the BVK scheme, strengthening Indonesia’s position as one of the most accessible destinations in Asia for tourism, business, and cultural exchange.

The newly added list includes: Brunei, the Philippines, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Timor Leste, Suriname, Colombia, Hong Kong, Brazil, Turkey, Peru, and certain residence permit holders from Singapore. Citizens of these countries can now enjoy visa-free entry to Indonesia for up to 30 days, making short visits significantly easier.

The Visa-Free Visit is designed for limited purposes such as tourism, short business trips, family visits, and medical check-ups. Travelers should note that the stay period is non-extendable and cannot be converted into another type of visa or stay permit. This means that while the BVK simplifies short-term travel, those intending to stay longer or conduct activities such as work or long-term residency will still need to apply for the appropriate visa or permit.

This policy expansion highlights Indonesia’s commitment to boosting international connectivity. It is expected to enhance tourism by welcoming more visitors from ASEAN neighbors and beyond, including emerging partners from Latin America and Europe. The move also reflects reciprocity principles, strengthening diplomatic and economic ties with countries that provide similar facilities for Indonesian citizens. For businesses, this makes exploratory visits, investment discussions, and short-term engagements far more accessible without administrative barriers.

For travelers planning to enter Indonesia under the Visa-Free Visit, there are a few important requirements to keep in mind. Your passport must be valid for at least six months from the date of arrival, you must carry proof of onward or return tickets, and you should be able to show proof of accommodation and sufficient financial means to support your stay. Certain categories, such as Singapore residence permit holders, may also need to provide additional supporting documents at immigration checkpoints.

The addition further expands the reach of Indonesia’s open-door approach, giving millions more travelers the opportunity to experience the country’s culture, natural beauty, and economic opportunities without the hassle of visa applications. Whether you are visiting for leisure in Bali, exploring new partnerships in Jakarta, or attending regional business meetings, Indonesia is now easier to access than ever.
