Transitional Residence Permit Bridges the Transition Process for Foreigners’ Residence Permits in RI JAKARTA – The Directorate General of Immigration, Ministry of Law and Human Rights, has implemented this transitional Residence Permit policy, also known as Bridging Visa. the residence permit becomes a ‘bridge’ between a previous residence permit and obtaining a new residence permit. “In this way, foreign nationals holding Visit Stay Permits submitted via evisa.imigration.go.id makes it possible to obtain a Limited Stay Permit without having to outside Indonesian territory. Likewise holders of Limited Stay Permits and Permanent Stay Permits which can no longer be extended, can obtain a new Residence Permit without having to leaving Indonesian territory,” said the Director General of Immigration, Silmy Karim.

The implementation of the Transitional Stay Permit is regulated in the Regulation of the Minister of Law and Human Rights (Permenkumham) Number 11 of 2024 which was ratified on April 1 2024. Permit validity period The transition period is 60 days and only applies onshore, namely for foreign nationals already in Indonesian territory. This residence permit is no longer valid if the foreigner leaves Indonesian territory.

This residence permit can be used by foreigners who will apply for a change of status to Izin Limited Stay. Foreign nationals holding a Transitional Stay Permit are not subject to this overstay if the application for a Transitional Stay Permit is approved after the validity period of the stay permit previously ended.

Foreign nationals who wish to use a Transitional Residence Permit must apply Apply via the evisa.imigration.go.id page and pay the fee immigration no later than 3 (three) days before the validity period of the previous residence permit expires. Silmy said, with a Transitional Residence Permit, foreigners can save time, energy and accommodation costs that should be incurred if foreigners have to leave the area Indonesia in order to submit an application and wait for approval of a new visa. “The implementation of the Transitional Stay Permit is an effort by the Directorate General of Immigration creating legal certainty for foreign citizens residing in Indonesian territory as well as ease of service,” he concluded.
